Balwant Singh

Balwant Singh was an Indian volleyball player who hailed from Kaul village in Kaithal district of Haryana. Belonging to modest family background Balwant Singh joined border security force in Jalandhar Punjab a hub of producing quality volleyball player. He is popularly known as Balu in his native region in recognition of his sports sporting performance. He was awarded Arjuna award in 1972. He rpresented India in three Asian game i.e. 1970, 1974 and 1978. After his demise in 2010 the village Panchayat of Kaul organized Balwan Singh Memorial Tournament and a stadium is also named after him to retain his legacy.
